I decided to translate this web site to English. It will take a while, but I will try…. I am stating with my open “post”, it might be useful for an American in another country other than their own.
Living in the USA
Change Country is always a challenge.
I do not know if I am able to give advices, but from my experience I would say: Now you’re starting a new life, a new day, embrace it as much as the country that welcomes you, this doesn’t means forget Brazil, no !
Brazil will never be forgotten, after all you are Brazilian, but learn to share your love with your second homeland, it will make you feel “at home”.
Do not be making comparisons, because every country has good and bad things, try, do not be restricted to “ghettos” of Brazilians, mix up, VIVA (LIVE) the country as if you were an American, make your rice with beans at home, but buy a can of U.S. beans “Baked beans” and try it, maybe you will like it ! hehehe ….( like I do !! )
Do not believe in such stereotypes like, every American is moron, every Brazilian is good people.
When in fact we could “translate” the moron as honest (if you know the Law of Gerson that exist in Brazil) ….. And I already saw many Brazilians “outmaneuver” friends? Such generalizations should not ever exist …..
Learn the language, try, you will see that the Americans will help ….
Go to the supermarket and chat in a row, it is very cool, like in Brazil the americans love to chat in store!
Forget that there is a Rede Globo, watch local TV, if you can, put cable, movie is a great and fun way to learn and practice the language.
If you are single, date an American, it is a great way to deepen the culture and language.
Remember, do not believe that American is cold, this is one more stereotypes!
Go to the movies, travel, work and live your new country, so if you ever decide to return to Brazil you will return with a baggage of cultural knowledge, don’t do like many that after years living in another country go back to Brazil without even knowing a new language.
Look your new city with eyes of tourists, thank the opportunity to be living in a different country and learning new things, how many people would not like to take this opportunity right?
Enjoy everything, even the weather! Sometimes are extreme temperatures, very cold, we are not used in Brazil, why complain? Wear a very warm coat, take a hot chocolate and see that everything will be better.
In my case it is extreme heat, very dry! but sun, a lot of sun, I always look at this wonderful sky and thank heaven! that is a beautiful nature.
Look and value what you see, what you eat, what you have, and you will see that the nostalgia will be smaller, it will always exist, but remember, you chose live in this country, you were not born here, so respect it as you want Brazil to be respected!
